Stranded by SM One of my earlier post was all about the FB/IG blackout and my accounts ended up deactivated. The latest IG news is that IG decided leaving photography behind and moving into video to imitate Tik Tok. It illustrate how little commitment the brant has to its artist. Could you imagine IG without art and artists? Another reminder that artist need to be vigilant. Artists are the ultimate small business people and like all businesses we need to stay on top of marketing and branding. When a social media platform abandons us we have to scramble and use our precious resource “time” to replace the given platform, time we could be spending creating new work. Resilient as we are, artist keep on pushing on and find new channels.
Remember those days when stock companies where our allies? I experienced this phenomenon very short. The moment they saw an opportunity they took not only our hand but out arm and full body. The internet has balanced out the playing field some for artist, jet at the same time created another hostile environment. What is it about art and our industry that so many rather take than support the arts? Artist are the ones who bring life to the party. You would make sure to invite them so they can continue to make your party a hit. So why can’t we be invited to the economical table and allow for more artist to enjoy the fruit of their labor and make a fair living of our art?
The support and love artists do get is so important and appreciated. For every work purchased millions are stolen. This year Artist Sunday falls on November 28 to celebrate the arts and supports its creators. I encourage you to shop at your local artist first. You know you will get a unique gift which is not stuck somewhere on the middle of the ocean. No worries if your package ever arrives and think of the savings on shipping. Art is a gift what keeps on giving.
As I am about to jump though another social media hoop, I made a commitment to myself and fellow artist to celebrate the support I get from all you, I will take my own advise and shop for my gifts in kind. Thank you for your support.

The perfect small hostage gift to attach to that delicious bottle of wine you bring to the party. Yes, you read this right slowly parties are returning.
