What is it about art what drives the living fear into people? Some say public speaking is feared the most, but I wonder if art is not secretly the leader who drives anxieties into so many hearts. But why?!
What is the root of this unexplainable fear?
It takes us the better of 12 month to learn to walk. Even longer to learn to speak and hold a conversation. The same goes for learning to read and write. Never-mind, learning almost any skill we acquire over our lifetime. Somewhere along the way we became to believe all it took to be a good artist is talent. The notion is so absurd to me and most artists. Few will see the endless hours artists work on their art. Much of our work never will see the daylight only to hold a special spot in our portfolio, documenting out journey as artists. Like all things worth doing, art takes time to be honed.
Today I want to give you permission, to ignore all those false believes. Let them go and open your mind. A wise man ones told me “dare to be lousy”. I dare you to pick up that pencil, brush, clay, wire or what ever media which got your attention. Take a class, watch a youtube movie, or simply play and experience with the materials of your choice. Your creation are between you and yourself. You decide when or if you want to share your art with others. In the meantime your art will bring your joy, challenges and sometimes will frustrate you. Let it be the friend you always wanted to have. Give yourself the gift of art. Remember baby steps it’s not a raise it’s a marathon. Happy creating…..
