There is something magical about the start of a new year. Even if the parties are missing and traveling challenging, ringing in the New Year brings with it that little spark of hope.

Despite it all, we seem to be conditioned to leave the old behind and to start fresh.

Art can be like this. Many times I started a project and at one point I will hit a wall. Something is not working or worth jet, I overworked a painting. I hate when that happens, but all I can do is either correct the painting or paint right over it calling it a lesson learned. A great reminder there will be new work to create.

A new year is like a blank canvas. The tools carried over from years past will make a new impression and influence our art. As we work and apply the medium their familiarity brings comfort and reassurance. However, not becoming compliant I like to add my own new skill challenge to bring new excitement and possibilities to my work.

Just before 2021 ended another artist put a daily art challenge up. After contemplating if I am up to the task, I decided why not.  I am curious to see what evolves out of this challenge and excited to look back come December to what new works I have created.

Wishing you all a Happy Healthy and Prosperous New Year
