Valentines Day

Yesterday out of the blue my son filled me in on a sad fact about Valentine’s day. He told me, Valentine’s day has the highest suicide rates. That made me pause. My first response to him was, how dark that is. Then I thanked him for sharing this reality with me. Valentine’s day is one of the first holidays. The first celebratory day’s someone might spend alone and missing someone after a loss.

So why so dark today Iris, you might ask? Well, after I thanked my son, I started to ponder how can I make someone who is spending this valentine’s day alone, lonely, and perhaps feeling the blues a little better.  STOP for a few minutes what you are doing. Now think about all the people in your life. Envision one face at a time and think about who they are. Do they have a family? Friends? A loved one? Did they lose someone or broke off a relationship? Moved new to town or started a new job?  I am almost certain there will be at least one person you know who could use a little TLC.

A small gesture is all it takes to put a smile on someone’s face. Buy that supersize bag of tiny chocolate hearts and leave it on someone’s desk. Send that poem text and email. Go ahead get a dozen of roses and give one to 12 unexpected people. It’s ok to give one to a guy or kid. Just because and watch those smiles. It will be the greatest gift you give yourself that day. Especially if you are too having a difficult day. Be the light for someone tomorrow on Valentine’s day.

Make sure that includes your favored artists. I love reading messages from friends and followers. We had tough two-plus years. As a community, we can help each other to reach the other side. Be the light for someone today on Valentine’s day and throughout the year.

I leave you with two lovely quotes:

You Are The Protagonist of Your Own Story.

“You deserve to be the protagonist of your own wonderful, bizarre, terrifying little life. If you decide you are enough, you are enough. You don’t need to wait for some grand external validation of your worth before you offer your kindest heart to yourself.” — Kathy Brown

“Dare to love yourself as if you were a rainbow with gold at both ends.” — Aberjhani

Thank You

Happy Valentine’s Day
